GALERIE FARBLOS

about me

When you look at a photographer's pictures, you sometimes want to find out something about the person behind the camera. At least that's how I feel. So I would like to take this opportunity to tell you something about myself.

I've been taking photos seriously since around the turn of the millennium. However, I've been taking photos my whole life. However, there is nothing from those years that is even close to being a successful photo. Even the first few years as a ‘dedicated amateur’ were more of a learning process than producing particularly good photos. This is perhaps partly due to the fact that I was constantly changing genres and trying out new things. This prevented me from finding a personal style and developing it further. I would consider a point only a few years ago as real progress in my photographic development. At this point, I broke away from the pigeonholing of genres and began to photograph everything as long as it could be subordinated to my way of seeing. That was the birth of my personal style.

But how would I describe my style? Definitely minimalist. Lately, I've also been placing more and more emphasis on the sky. Many of my more recent pictures show more sky than anything else. And my favourite kind of sky is cloudy. I can't do much with sun. And I like the sea. But also the flat land. The main thing is that you can see far. Flat landscape and lots of sky. At least that's the direction my photography is heading in at the moment.

But then again, I don't see it quite so narrowly. As I mentioned before, I have shed the restrictive corset of photographic genres and photograph everything that seems suitable to me as a motif. I have no other choice, as I don't live by the sea or in the flat country. And so I occasionally take portraits and still lifes or architectural photos.

Anyone expecting a few words about the technology I use will probably be disappointed, because I don't want to write about that here. Just this much: I started with analogue film and have been shooting exclusively digitally for years. I'm not indifferent to the camera technology, but I believe that you can take excellent pictures with all modern cameras and so everyone is welcome to use the tool that suits them best.

Oh, and did I mention that I have photographed almost exclusively in black and white from the very beginning?
