Siegen, May 15th until July 13th 2025
The photos in the exhibition inSIEGEN clearly stand out from colourful postcard motifs in that they do not advertise the beauty of Siegen in bright, loud colours. In fact, the images shown are less about the buildings or streets photographed and more about the moods that are to be conveyed and communicated. The aim is to convey a thoughtful, sometimes somewhat melancholy, but never gloomy or even depressive image of Siegen in rather quiet tones. The buildings, or even just details of them, are usually depicted in minimalist, black and white photographs with a lot of grey sky. Occasionally, the sky takes up such a large part of the picture that it could give the impression that it is the main motif. In reality, however, it is only intended to support the main motif and help to bring some calm into the picture. Another important point in many of the exhibited pictures is the somewhat unusual perspective and the chosen framing. This keeps the somewhat restless elements, e.g. the many details at street level, out of the picture and at the same time builds up some tension.
